ICC ODI World cup, the Showpiece event of international body, is starting on 5th of October 2023 in India. Here is how every team reached the event and the venues where they all are going to Battle for Glory.
World Cup Qualification Process
Being the hosts, India were handed a direct entry into the 2023 World Cup.
The other seven teams earned qualification based on their standings in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. This is a three-year competition where a total of 13 teams compete in eight bilateral ODI series (three-match) each.
The top-seven teams – New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa – booked their ticket to the main event.
The bottom five later featured in the World Cup Qualifier. Sri Lanka and the Netherlands reached the final of the qualifying campaign. The Islander nation remained unbeaten throughout the tournament before notching up a resounding 128-run win over the Dutch unit in the final showdown.
Venues for ICC ODI World Cup
10 venues across India will host the Mega event. Ahmedabad will host the Curtain raiser and the final. The other stadiums for the World Cup matches are – M Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru), M.A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai), Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi), Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium (Dharamshala), Eden Gardens (Kolkata), Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium (Lucknow), Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), MCA International Stadium (Pune) and Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Hyderabad).
