The Moon-sighting Committee of the United Arab Emirates made the announcement during their meeting, stating that the first day of Eid Al Fitr will be on April 10, 2024 on Wednesday.
The committee gathered on Monday, April 8, but they failed to see the crescent moon, which marks the beginning of a new month according to the Islamic calendar. Because of this, they made the statement.
The holy month of Ramadan will so continue for the entire thirty days, concluding on Tuesday.
All of the UAE states now have their Eid al Fitr prayer times announced.
Public and commercial sector workers together will have a nine-day vacation, including weekends.
The committee, after exhausting the sharia methods of sighting the crescent and making the necessary contacts with neighbouring countries, could not sight the Shawwal month crescent on Monday evening, and therefore declares that Tuesday, 9th April, is the last day of Ramadan 1445 AH, and that Wednesday, 10th April, is the first day of Eid Al Fitr,Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Committee, said.
President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai; Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Royal Court Member and Ruler of the Emirates; and the Crown Princes were all warmly congratulated by the minister and committee members on this momentous occasion.
On this cheerful occasion, they, together with the people of the United Arab Emirates, conveyed their warmest greetings to Muslims all across the world.
