The UAE’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has collaborated with Shell International to create the UAE Scenarios Sketch. The aim is to provide details on potential scenarios for the United Arab Emirates’s energy transition towards net-zero emissions by 2050 sector-by-sector basis.
The UAE Scenarios sketch was unveiled during a formal gathering in Abu Dhabi. His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure graced the event by his presence. Notables from energy and water sector also attended the gathering.
His excellency said:
“Under the guidance of our able leadership, the UAE is keen on developing clear pathways for its transition to clean energy to achieve its net-zero commitment by 2050. The UAE Scenarios Sketch could serve as a basic guideline for all stakeholders during this transition. It is in accordance with the UAE’s drive to diversify its energy sources. Aim is to increase reliance on clean energy, and enhance energy.”
This research is likely to have a significant impact on the development of future scenarios across many industries in the United Arab Emirates. In addition, it serves to strengthen the United Arab Emirates’ dedication to the shift towards sustainable and environmentally-friendly energy . This endeavor also exemplifies the UAE’s prominent position in regional and global initiatives pertaining to climate change.
For his part, Ali Al Janabi, Country Chair of Shell UAE and Iraq, said:
“This collaboration with MoEI reaffirmed the UAE’s determination to meet its net zero by 2050 goal, and the role everyone can play to achieve this. Getting there will involve heavy planning for what the energy systems of tomorrow may look like, based on decisions taken today. And the Sketch can be one of the tools that enable that planning.”
Al Mazrouei emphasized the significance of the United Arab Emirates’ 2050 Energy Strategy, officially presented in July. The primary objective of “UAE Scenarios sketch” is to assist the United Arab Emirates in achieving its objectives related to the diversification of energy sources, enhancement of energy efficiency, and advancement of contemporary technology. The ultimate goal is to ensure the availability of sustainable and dependable energy for both present and future generations.
The collaboration with Shell International will serve to strengthen UAE’s commitment towards a clean and sustainable environment, both locally and globally.
