The UAE has announced a paid Eid al-Fitr holiday for private sector workers from April 8th to 12th. The UAE Cabinet announced that the Eid Al Fitr holiday for the federal government sector will start on Monday, 8th April 2024, for a period of one week. Regular working hours would then resume on Monday, 15th April.
“29 Ramadan (8 April 2024) to 3 Shawwal will be a paid holiday for all employees in the private sector across the UAE on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr” The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that Monday.
In a message to all federal agencies, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced the Eid Al Fitr vacation.
Ramadan, which began on March 11, ends with Eid al-Fitr. Over 1.8 billion Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and pray and meditate during this month.
There are twelve months in a year according to the Islamic lunar calendar, which has 354 or 355 days. Ramadan is observed during the ninth month of this calendar.
Following a five-day holiday for the public sector at the end of the previous week, any confirmation of Moon sightings might result in a break of the same length for the commercial sector.
“Traditionally, the Eid holidays are very busy in the UAE, with a surge of bookings from local residents as well as from neighboring GCC countries,” Jan Hanak, managing director for the Radisson Hotel Group in the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Egyp said.
“Interest in bookings has risen by at least 20 per cent since the announcement of the longer holidays for Eid Al Fitr”, another hotelier in Dubai said.
Because the spring break and the Eid holidays fall on the same week, Dubai International, one of the busiest airports in the world, was also preparing for a record week.
On weekends, officials expected an average of 258,000 passengers per day, making it the busiest day of the week.
