The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed, has expressed his condolences on the death of Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the representative of the Abu Dhabi ruler in the Al Ain region.
For the next seven days beginning today, Wednesday, May 1, the Presidential Court has ordered all flags flown at half-mast in observance of official mourning.
Sheikh Tahnoun has been a frequent sight at events throughout the nation in recent years, often seen with the President of the United Arab Emirates.
One of his highways, E66, which runs between Dubai and Al Ain, was named after him in 2018.
He moved up the ranks in 1977 to become Al Ain’s Department of Agriculture and Municipalities head and deputy chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
“Most of his official positions and his distinguished record of service to the state and its citizens were focused on his work in the city, making him close to the concerns of its citizens and directly involved in their joys and occasions,” Wam reported.
His Majesty’s palace In separate statements today, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman; H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah; H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain; and H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, expressed their sorrow over the passing of Sheikh Tahnoun.
Furthermore, they sent their condolences to the President of the United Arab Emirates and the Al Nahyan family, pleading with Allah to grant the departed a peaceful eternity in paradise.
After an agreement reached by all the emirates’ courts, the national flag of the United Arab Emirates will fly at half-mast for the seven days of mourning.
