Joby Aviation’s founder and chief executive officer JoeBen Bevirt recently made an announcement about the company’s plans to build and run Air taxi services in Dubai, with a planned commercial start in 2026. Because of this, Dubai will continue to be an innovator in the field of urban mobility.
Air taxis will be available to Dubai residents in a few years, and the price? Dh350 for each traveler.
From above, passengers may take in stunning views of the city, but riding a flying cab is also a practical way to avoid traffic jams.
“These aircraft can cut travel time between two locations in Dubai by nearly 70 per cent,” Joby’s president of operations, Bonny Simi said.
Bevirt disclosed to the Emirates News Agency during the World Governments Summit (WGS) that Joby Aviation had signed a deal to implement this innovative service with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The planned start date for the operational testing is 2025.
The agreement includes operational channels and strategic partnership-supported infrastructure to ensure a seamless launch.
Bevirt claimed that Joby’s jets can fly 200 mph, making the trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah in 10 minutes instead of 45.
“It takes about 45 minutes to one hour to travel from Dubai [International] Airport to Palm Jumeirah by road. By an air taxi, it will just take about 10 to 12 minutes,” Simi said.
Passengers may enjoy a peaceful and pleasing journey with a noise level of only 45 decibels while the aircraft flies at an altitude of 500 to 1,000 metres.
“The altitude will depend on the travel distance. For a longer distance, the aircraft will fly for nearly 1,000 meters above the ground, and for a shorter distance, it will hover between 500 meters to 100 meters,” said Simi.
Additionally, it just takes 10 minutes for the air taxi to get from zero to one hundred percent charge.
Combining the agility of an aircraft with the vertical takeoff capability of a helicopter, it is truly remarkable.
Air Taxi, which will help passengers save time, and AI Cabin Crew are just two examples of how far Dubai has come in terms of technology.
