GDRFA reported 366 duplicate passport cases at Dubai Airport in the first three months of 2024, an increase from 355 the previous year.
There were 1,232 confirmed cases of document copies out of 16,127 that were reviewed last year. The particulars of each case determined the next steps in 443 referrals to the public prosecution.
“More than 350 incoming passengers at Dubai International Airport (DXB) were caught holding fake passports between January and March this year,” General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai said on Monday.
“GDRFA has an effective system to catch fraudsters trying to enter the emirate carrying illegal passports,” Aqil Ahmad Alnajjar, consultant, at the Document Examination Centre, said.
Every counter at Dubai Airport Passport Control has a Retro Check system that checks for false passports. An effective barrier, these gadgets assist immigration personnel in discovering fake passports.
A passport control officer sends a suspicious passport to the Document Examination Centre for verification and reports it to public prosecution.
According to Alnajjar, it just takes five minutes to verify a suspicious passport. Passport control is a rotational process that involves 1,500 staff members.
The world’s largest airport, Al Maktoum International Airport, will service 260 million people each year to satisfy rising passenger numbers.
