Fans of men’s one-day international cricket have had to be patient for the last four years, but the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup is finally returning.
This is the first time in the event’s long and illustrious history that the showcase competition will take place in India by alone. When the competition used to take place on Indian territory in the past, different Asian nations would take turns hosting the event.
On October 5, 2023, the One-Day International (ODI) World Cup will get off with England and New Zealand, the two teams who came out on top in the last tournament, facing off against one another in the first match.
The final match is on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match will decide the winner of the competition.
ICC Men’s ODI World Cup Format
This year’s One-Day International World Cup will have a total of ten teams competing. During the group stage, the teams will compete against one another just once in a single round-robin format, as was the case with the 2019 edition. The victorious team will get two points for their efforts.
The top four teams on the table in terms of the earned points will go on to compete in the semi-finals of the competition. In the event that two teams end with the same number of points, the total number of victories earned by each team will be taken into consideration, and then the net run rate will be used.
During the most recent iteration of the World Cup, both Pakistan and New Zealand finished the group stage with 11 points and a win total of five matches, making them tied for first place. Because of their higher net run rate, the Black Caps were finally able to secure one of the four spots in the final.
In the semi-finals, the team that finished in first place will face the team that came in fourth, while the teams who finished second and third will compete against one another to see who will go to the championship game.
