A fire breakout at a high residential building in Al Nadha, Sharjah on Thursday night killing 5 and injured 44 people. The Fire took place in a 39-storey building comprising of total 750 apartments.
Nearby hotels provide temporary accommodation to a total of 156 people due to the damage caused by the fire.
“Out of 44 injured,27 were discharged after receiving treatment while 17 are currently in hospital” Sharjah Police said in a statment.
Sharjah Police provided shelter to 156 people including 18 children aged one to 10 years at a hotel in the Emirate, with the help of Emirates Red Crescent Authority. Authorities provided all essentials to the people and performed medical examinations.
“The fire was put out in record time as emergency response teams rushed to the site immediately after receiving a report of the incident at 10.50pm” Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, Maj-Gen Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi said.
Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi offered condolence to the families of those who died in the fire in Sharjah Tower. The dead ones include one woman from the Philippines, an Indian man and a woman, a Kenyan man and a Bangladeshi man.
A quick investigation showed that smoldering trash quickly spread the fire, sending flames up to the higher floors. The trash came in contact with some ashes in the hallway of the building.
Black smoke swallowed a number of flats within no time, making it difficult for people to breathe. According to the investigation, suffocation is the cause of the deaths. The police appeal to all property owners to take all precautions to avoid such fire breakout incidents.
