UAE has pledged $15 million to help the African nation of Kenya deal with the aftermath of the devastating floods and heavy rains that hit the nation recently.
The recent floods displaced many people and destroyed several infrastructures and the north of Nairobi taking a disproportionately harsh impact.
The latest official estimates put the number of affected families at about 55,000 because of the floodwaters that damaged or destroyed houses, highways, and bridges across the nation.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, has ordered the funds.
After weeks of flooding and rainfall left a path of devastation throughout Kenya and claimed about 260 lives so government has issued an evacuation order for all residents in regions deemed vulnerable.
“The UAE provided this support as part of its close relations with Kenya, standing in solidarity with the country as it tackles the impact of the floods.” Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, said.
United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed has instructed his government to be ready to respond to humanitarian intervention requests at all times, according to the chairman of the International Humanitarian Affairs Council, Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
After devastating the UAE, the flood has made its way to Kenya, ultimately destroying the numerous lives. The destruction and damage that the UAE has experienced are beyond measure and now so the same destruction is affecting Kenya as well.
On behalf of the whole Kenyan people, the minister extended his heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the recent tragedy.
