On Saturday, the Sharjah Routes and Transport Authority announced that two important routes, Al Ittihad and Al Wahda, will have reduced speed restrictions.
Government of Sharjah announced the speed limit from 100 km/h to 80 km/h along a portion of Al Ittihad Road and Al Wahda Road.
The government posted a 4.3km map showing section between the Al Taawun Bridge after the Dubai Sharjah border to the King Faisal Bridge. The E11 expressway passes through Al Taawun, Al Nahda, Al Wahda, and Al Majaz, where many of Dubai-Sharjah commuters live.
In Sharjah, a speeding fine can be as high as a certain amount, depending on the route in question and the degree of the violation. On the other hand, violations of federal traffic laws can result in fines ranging from Dh300 to Dh3,000, with more serious offenses carrying the possibility of black points and vehicle seizure.
Authorities similarly reduced the speed limit from 100 kmph to 80 kmph on the section between Sharjah and Al Garhoud Bridge in November of last year.
This month, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority began a thorough study to learn more about the ways in which remote work and flexible hours may reduce traffic.
“It was a proposal by the Federal National Council (FNC) to construct a new federal highway connecting all seven emirates,” Ministry of Interior said.
Also this year, RTA unveiled a project that would use 48 traffic signals upgraded with artificial intelligence to increase traffic flow by as much as 30%. These signals would use real time traffic data analyzed by cameras and sensors to change their timing.
